SOUTH BEND - Lorraine Karkiewicz, 70, of Mayflower Circle, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in her home after an illness. Mrs. Karkiewicz retired in 1990 from St. Joseph County Department of Public Welfare after 30 years. She was born Aug. 16, 1925, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On Sept. 10, 1949, in South Bend, as Lorraine H. Grzeskowiak, she married Edward L. Karkiewicz. He survives with two daughters, Diane L. Karkiewicz of Concord, Calif., and Amy E. Karkiewicz of Granger; three sons, David of Indianapolis, Mark of Granger and Paul of South Bend; and five grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Gardens, St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
