SOUTH BEND - Edwin M. Kapsa, 87, of South Bend, passed
away on Thursday, April 3, 2008, in his home. He was born on
March 18, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Michael and Blanche (Bukowski)
Kapsa, and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from South
Bend Catholic High School and then went on to graduate from the
South Bend College of Commerce. Mr. Kapsa worked for Bendix for
11 years, Dan's Painting and Decorating for 20 years, and
Ziolkowski Construction for five years, retiring from the latter
in 1984. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of W.W. II
and was a member of American Legion Post #357. Edwin was a
parishioner of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, where he was very
active, belonging to the Holy Name Society and Golden Cluster
there. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus
Santa Maria Council #553 and a member of MR Falcons, and was a
faithful patron of Pejzas Tavern. Mr. Kapsa was also a violinist
with the Elkhart Symphony and loved to play his violin. In his
earlier years, he was an actor and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Brenda K.
Kapsa; 16 nieces and nephews; 34 great-nieces and nephews; and
several great-great-nieces and nephews. Along with his parents,
he was preceded in death by four sisters, Sister M. Gabriel,
Bernice Wojciechowski, Wanda Kapsa and Carrie Kapsa; and
by five brothers, Joseph, Anthony, William, Thaddeus and Leonard
Kapsa.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM today
(Sunday, April 6) in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix
Drive, South Bend, where a combined parish and Knights of
Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 PM. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday in St. Hedwig Catholic
Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S.
Scott St., South Bend, IN.
