Gerald A. Kamm
SOUTH BEND - Gerald A. Kamm, 85,
passed away Sunday afternoon, February 4, 2007, in Homewood
Residence, Naples, Florida, following a lengthy illness. Gerry's
life began August 31, 1921, in Mishawaka, as one of three sons
born to Albin and Lavina (Irr) Kamm. He grew up in
Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawka High School. Gerry attended
the University of Notre Dame where he earned both B.A. and J.D.
degrees. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War
II. Gerry settled in South Bend where he was a practicing
attorney with the Doran, Manion, Boynton & Kamm law office.
He was also general counsel for St. Joseph Bank and Trust, which
is now KeyBank.
Gerry's Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He was
a member of St. Matthew Cathedral in South Bend and formerly
belonged to St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka. He was a Knight of
Malta and a Fellow of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer. Gerry
was a business-oriented person who enjoyed finance, investing and
reading. He loved traveling and was particularly fond of taking
cruises. Gerry enjoyed spending time at the family cottage named
Stones Throw on Lake Michigan in New Buffalo. Because
of their generosity, Gerry and his brother Elmer received the
Helping Hands Award from the Center for Hospice and Palliative
Care in South Bend.
Gerry's surviving family includes several cousins. He was
preceded in death by his father in 1960, his mother in 1973, his
brothers, Wilber Kamm in 1984 and Elmer Kamm in 2004.
Friends and family may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. on Thursday in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral
Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be
recited at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami
Street, South Bend, with Rev. Michael Heintz officiating.
Visitation will also be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the church on
Friday. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
Military honors will be provided by VFW 360/American Legion 161
Burial Squad. Contributions in Gerry's memory may be made to the
American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Services. Envelopes are
available in the funeral home.
