Marilyn Mildred Kale

Marilyn M. Kale, 77, of Farmingdale, Maine,
died at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, in Nickerson Nursing
Home, Winthrop, Maine. She was born on Nov. 9, 1922, in South
Bend, Ind., to the late Paul and Mabel (Hemphill) Mohn. On
June 2, 1941, in South Bend, she married
Jack Kale, who also preceded her in death in June 1970. Mrs. Kale
attended St. Mary's College in South Bend. She was employed with
Ball Band Rubber Factory, Mishawaka, Ind., during World War II,
where she took part in the development of styro-foam in the
1940s. Marilyn moved to Lafayette, Ind., where she served for 17
years in the biology research department at Purdue University.
While in Lafayette she also served as a girl scout leader. Upon
retirement she moved back to Mishawaka and resided here for 10
years. She moved to Maine in 1996.
Mrs. Kale is survived by two daughters and
their husbands, Paula (Mark) Reinhold of Mishawaka and Lise
(Paul) Kearney of Gardiner, Maine; and by six grandchildren,
Patrick Kearney, Jack Kearney and Mary Margaret Kearnery, all of
Maine, Matthew Reinhold, Allison Reinhold and Aaron Reinhold, all
of Mishawaka. Marilyn enjoyed and loved all of nature. She loved
wild animals and particularly enjoyed raising Himalayan cats and
salt water fish.
Memorial services for Marilyn Kale will be
held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 21, in the mausoleum chapel at
Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Rev. David Ottsen, pastor of St.
Paul's Episcopal Church, Mishawaka, will officiate. Burial will
follow in Highland Cemetery. The Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend,
is handling arrangements.
