Orlo L. Joy

Orlo L. Joy, 74, of Elm Road, Granger, Ind., passed away following an illness at 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, in Fountainview Place, Misha-waka, Ind. He was born on April 11, 1925, in South Bend, Ind., to Albert and Marie Joy, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Christine Stauffer.

 

On Aug. 22, 1948, he married the former Kathryn Joan Darr in South Bend. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Susan (Roger) Haag of Fruitport, Mich.; his sons, James Joy of LaPorte, Ind., and Gregory Joy of South Bend; his brother, Ernest Joy of Granger, Ind.; a sister, Leatrice Joy of Granger; and by his two grandchildren. Mr. Joy was one of the founders of the Harris Township Fire Department and served as fire chief from 1961-1963. He served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1943-1946 as a radio operator. He was the owner/operator of the Joy Tree Farm, and drove a school bus for 36 years for the Penn Harris Madison School System.

 

Services for Mr. Joy will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, where friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Officiating services will be Rev. Arnold O. Schaap of Edwardsburg, Mich. Burial will follow the services on Sunday at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
