GRANGER - Kathryn Joan Joy, 83, of Granger, Indiana, passed away
peacefully in her home on April 30, 2010. She was born in South
Bend on April 24, 1927, to Dale and Joyce Darr. She grew up in
River Park and graduated from John Adams High School. She worked
as a bank teller before her marriage in 1948 to Orlo
"Bud" Joy, who preceded her in death in 2000. She was
also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Darr, and a sister,
Jeannie Craft. She is survived by a brother, Larry Darr of South
Bend; a daughter, Susan (Roger) Haag of Fruitport, Michigan; and
two sons, Greg (Bunnie) of South Bend and James (Monica) of
LaPorte. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kevin (Hannah)
Gage Haag of Seattle, Washington, Stephanie (Sam) Haag of
Kentwood, Michigan, Jason (Jennifer) Lozano of South Bend and
Serena (Daniel) Lozano Shane of South Bend; and two
great-grandchildren, Hannah and Isabel. Joan was a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a founding
member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Harris Township Volunteer
Fire Department, and enjoyed sewing, needlework and gardening.
From high school friends to recent caregivers, she is remembered
for her gentle, sweet nature and generosity. A particularly fond
memory of her children's is of her tremendous skill as a baker.
She could make the world's best pie from any wild berries her
kids could find growing in the fields. Visitation will be today
from 4 to 8 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street,
Mishawaka, where funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Memorial Park. Memorial
