Evelyn G. Joyal

Evelyn G. Joyal, 93, a long time resident of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully after suffering from a severe stroke at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, in the Hospice House of Saint Joseph County, Roseland, Ind.
She was a loving and caring aunt, cousin, and friend, and an avid golfer. She had a deep and abiding faith.
Evelyn was born on Feb. 22, 1907, in Mishawaka to the late Edwin and Josephine (Bickel) Miller. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Gordon, and Earnest; and a sister, Marzella. On Oct. 24, 1936, Evelyn married Leo T. Joyal in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Leo passed away on April 23, 1973.
When Evelyn was still young, her mother passed away and Evelyn joined the family of Ralph and Henrietta Howland, her aunt and uncle. She was raised as a sister to Ralph, Agnes Jane (Anderson) and Bernard Howland.
Evelyn is survived by her cousin and "sister", Agnes Jane Anderson, cousin and "Brother", Ralph Howland, and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was employed for 29 years at the First National Bank (First Source) and retired in 1970. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church and involved in the Eberhardt Mishawaka Women's Golf League, Robin Hood Women's Golf League, Ladies Auxiliary Mishawaka Eagles 2083, and Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary #235, South Bend.
Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 29, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, in St. Bavo Catholic Church. Evelyn will be buried at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
