Robert T. Jones, 81, of South Filbert Street, New Carlisle, Ind., passed away on Friday, June 11, in his home. Mr. Jones was born on Nov. 4, 1917, in New Carlisle, to Howard F. and Margaret C. (Clendenen) Jones. He retired as a freight accountant on Feb. 28, 1978, from the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad after 41 years of service.
On Sept. 23, 1961, in New Carlisle, he married Betty D. Tennyson, who preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1985. Mr. Jones was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. He is survived by a son, Robert D. (Michele) Tennyson of Granger, Ind.; two granddaughters, Lindsay Westmore of Boone, N.C., and Courtney Tennyson of Granger; a sister, Mary Margaret Marker of New Carlisle; and by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Community Church of New Carlisle, and graduated in 1935 from New Carlisle High School. He served as a first lieutenant In the Army during World War II, where he traveled completely around the world. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, F&AM, Terre Coupe #204; was a life member of American Legion Post 297, New Carlisle; a member of the Northern Indiana Railway Historic Society, South Bend; Historic New Carlisle, Inc.; South Shore Veterans Association; was past president of the New Carlisle Town Council; a past secretary of the New Carlisle Bowling Association; was a retired New Carlisle volunteer firefighter; and was an avid sports fan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 203 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, with Dr. Ernest E. Geist officiating. Burial will follow in the New Carlisle Cemetery, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 297, New Carlisle. Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, June 13, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle.
