Rev. Thomas P. Jones CSC, 72, of Casa
Santa Cruz, Phoenix, Ariz. died early Wednesday in his residence
after an unexpected illness. He was born Aug. 18, 1908 in
Anderson, Ind. and entered the Congregation of the Holy Cross on
July 1, 1926. He was graduated from the University of Notre Dame
in 1931, and after completing theological studies at Holy Cross
College, Washington, DC, he was ordained to the priesthood at
Sacred Heart Church on June 24, 1935. He received his Ph.D. in
Religious Studies from Catholic University in 1961. He served as
an Army chaplain from 1944 to 1946, and taught at the University
of Notre Dame from 1936 to 1938 and from 1959 to 1965.
From 1938 to 1944 he taught at St. Hedwig
University in Texas. From 1946 to 1948 he taught at Kings
College, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. From 1948 to 1959 he taught at the
University of Portland in Oregon. He served as chaplain at
Cathedral High School, Indianapolis from 1965 to 1970. From 1970
to 1975 he resided at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame and from 1975
to the present at Casa Santa Cruz, Phoenix. He is survived by a
sister, Miss Elizabeth Ann Jones of Indianapolis.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sacred
Heart Church. Bishop Alfred Mendez of Texas will officiate
and burial will be in Community Cemetery. Friends may call after
3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Moreau Seminary Chapel, where a wake
service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
