Nov. 14, 1947 - March 19, 2010SOUTH BEND - Shirley D. Johnson, 62, departed from this life on Friday, March 19, 2010, at 2:07 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Hospital. Shirley was born on November 14, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to Jimmie and Olivia Roberts. Shirley graduated from Du Sable High School and attended Wilson Jr. College in Chicago, Illinois. In 1963 Shirley had her only child, Derrick, whom she loved dearly. On June 28, 1969, she married Leroy Johnson Jr. Shirley moved to South Bend, Indiana, in 1986. She worked for the Target and PEI Genesis Corporations. She loved reading, music, cooking and word-finds. Playing cards was one of her favorite ways to spend time with family and friends. Shirley was overjoyed when her grandsons were born. They were truly the apple of her eye. Shirley adored her niece, Brianna. She spent countless hours loving and nurturing her. Their relationship was truly special. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Mrs. Olivia Roberts of Newbern, AL; her son, Derrick W. Parker of Columbus, OH; her sister, Lela Warren (John) of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Derrick W. Parker Jr. and Edmund E. Parker of Columbus, OH; one niece, Brianna O. Warren of South Bend; two aunts, Beatrice P. Morris of Chicago, IL, and Lexie Pigee of Pulaski, IL; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Memorial services for Ms. Shirley D. Johnson will be held on Saturday, March 27, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN. Visitation from noon until services at 1 p.m. Clark-O'Neal has been entrusted with services.
