MISHAWAKA - Mary S. Johnson, 85, of Mishawaka, died on Friday, April 18, 2008, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Mary was born in Mishawaka on April 12, 1923, to Donald S. and Mary S. (Hepler) Saunter, who preceded her in death.

She married Merle H. Johnson on January 26, 1946, and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1998. Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Bennett in February 1998. She is survived by a daughter, Diana Hoffman of Mishawaka; a son, John (Kathy) Johnson of Valparaiso; five grandchildren, Jill, Aaron, Stacey, Scott and Tim; six great-grandchildren, Josh, Alex, Jordyn, Paige, Andrew and Bly. Mary is also survived by her brother, George (Joyce) Saunter of Hawaii, and a niece, Judy (Jerry) Watts of The Villages, FL. Mary was a homemaker, a member of the New Apostolic Church since 1948, and had served as a member of the church choir.

A memorial funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, in the New Apostolic Church at 2221 S. Ironwood, South Bend, IN 46614, at 8 p.m., with District Evangelist Mark Diefenbach officiating. A fellowship will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Apostolic Church, World Relief Fund. Bubb Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
