SOUTH BEND - Mr. Jay C. Johnson, 69, who resided on Clearview
Place, South Bend, Indiana, departed from this life at 7:23 p.m.
on Saturday, January 2, 2010, in Hospice House of St. Joseph
County. Life for Jay C. began in Lawton, Oklahoma, on March 12,
1940, when he was born to Jay C. and Ruth Odessa (Hudson) Johnson
Jr. At the age of 10, Jay C. moved with his family to South Bend,
coming from Lawton, OK. After finishing his schooling in South
Bend he served in the United States Air Force where he was
honorably discharged. Jay C. retired in 1999 as a carpenter from
Batteast Construction Company after 30-pIus years of service. Jay
C. and Marshie Marsh were married on September 15, 1984, in South
Bend. Among his hobbies were fishing, cooking and home
remodeling. He was a former member of St. Luke Memorial COGIC and
Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC. Also, he was a member of Local Union
# 141. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marshie;
five daughters, Michelle Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia Johnson,
Debra Johnson, LaRhonda (David) Hosea and Kim Petterson, all of
South Bend; three sons, David (Michaela) Johnson of Hetzerath,
Germany, Jay C. (Chaz) Johnson III and Brandon (Vanity) Johnson,
both of South Bend; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one
sister, Thealynn Lewis, Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, Odell
(Marvis) Johnson of Southfield, MI, and Ricky Jones of Florida;
along with other relatives and friends. Mr. Johnson was preceded
in death by his father, Jay C. Johnson Sr.; brother, Rudy Wade;
and his grandmother, Mable L. Harris. Funeral services for Mr.
Johnson will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8th, in
Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC, with Reverend Hardy Blake
officiating. Interment will be held at Highland Cemetery. Friends
may call in the church one hour prior to the services.
