Charles William "Billy" Johnson,
80, formerly of South Falcon Street, entered into eternal rest on
Sunday, Sept. 12, at St. Joseph Care Center West. He was born to
the union of William and Winfred (Wil-kerson) Johnson, who both
preceded him in death. On Jan. 12, 1962, he was united in holy
matrimony to Elizabeth Holman, and enjoyed 16 years of
marriage until her death on Sept. 20, 1978. He was also preceded
in death by two brothers, Thomas and James "Jimmy"
Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a World War II veteran, and retired as a
self-employed auto specialist. A native of Nashville, Tenn., Mr.
Johnson returned to South Bend in 1997 where he spent his last
days with close family and friends. Charles Johnson was a member
of Faith Christian Center Church of South Bend where he was
richly blessed by his pastors, Clyde and Audrey Harris. He was
also a member of King Solomon Lodge #10, International Masons.
Mr. Johnson leaves behind a family who will miss him dearly: a
son, Robert (Denise) Corbin and three grandchildren of
Nashville; a devoted brother, John K. (Louise) Johnson; two
sisters, Freddie C. and Wertie M. Johnson; a sister-in- law,
Mattie Johnson; eight nephews, Dwight of Fort Wayne, Ind., and
Jimmy, Preston (Cora), Barry, William (Nancy), Calvin (Gaye),
Wendell (Kathy) and Kelly Johnson, all of South Bend; four
nieces, Joyce (Mortimer) Elliott of Daytona Beach, Fla.,
Sheila (Henry) Young of Indianapolis, Ind., Denise Johnson
of Battle Creek, Mich., and Jennifer Johnson of South Bend. Also
left to cherish his memory are a host of great-nieces and
nephews. Affectionately called "Uncle Billy," he truly
loved his family and often expressed his sentiments through notes
and cards filed with heartfelt messages and encouraging words. He
will always be remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Friday, Sept. 17, in Faith Christian Center Church, 56165
Mayflower Road, South Bend, followed by interment at Highland
Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.
16, at Alford's Mortuary. A Masonic service will be held at 8
p.m.
