Elsa Mantei Jeske, 91, of Saint
Paul's Retirement Community, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Sunday,
July 29, in her residence. She was born Sept. 21, 1909, in
RudyKopf, Russia, to the late Edward Rohde and Lydia Kremin.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Mantei,
who died in 1965. They had been married in Kenosha, Wis., on May
4, 1927.
On Sept. 16, 1982, in Benton Harbor, Mich.,
she married Julius Jeske, who died in 1990. She is survived by
her daughters, Patsy Elaine (Charles) Stewart, Delores
Ruth (Charles) Jeske of South Bend and Linda Lou (Michael) Kuruzar
of Chandler, Ariz.; a son, Richard D. (Bernadine) Mantei of
Edwardsburg, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; and by two brothers, Eric Rohde of
Pennsylvania and Richard Rohde of Michigan.
Mrs. Jeske retired from the South Bend
Medical Foundation where she had worked for 20 years. While
living in Benton Harbor she belonged to St. Matthew's Lutheran
Church. After coming to South Bend she joined the Peace
Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Services will be held at 12 noon on
Wednesday, Aug. 1, in the WELSHEIMER FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 17033
Cleveland Road, with Pastor Steven Mischke officiating. Burial
will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8
p.m. today, July 31, in the funeral home.
