Chester C . "Duke" Jaronik,
76, of South Jackson Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 1
a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on Jan.
19, 1925, to the late Edward and Rose (Grezinski) Jaronik in
South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. He was also preceded in
death by a grandson, Tom Kovacs; and by two brothers, Art
and Ray Jaronik. Mr. Jaronik retired in 1980 from Wheelabrator
Frye, Inc., after 15 years of service.
On Aug. 30, 1947, he married Julia Szilagyi
in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend. She survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Nancy (Steve) Kovacs of South
Bend; a son, Gary Jaronik of South B end; and by two grandsons,
Christopher (Jodi) McKee and Jeremy McKee. Mr. Jaronik was
a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, the Breezer's
Club, and American Legion Post #357. He was an Army veteran of
World War II.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul J. McCarthy officiating.
Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery where American Legion
Post #357 will conduct military services. Friends may call from 2
to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 19, in the Kaniewski Funeral
Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary
will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.
