John R. Jankowski

John R. Jankowski, 92, formerly of
Sisters Lake, Mich., and of South Bend, Ind., died at 8:05 a.m.
on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in St. Paul's Retirement Community. He was
born on April 14, 1906, in the Village of Little Suamico, Wis.,
and lived in this area since 1922, coming from South Dakota. Mr.
Jankowski was employed by the former Studebaker Corporation and
retired from the Selmer Corporation in 1971.
Mr. Jankowski was married on Sept. 3, 1930,
in South Bend, to Irene E. Szymanski, who survives. He is
also survived by a daughter, Maryanne Jackovitz of
Monroeville, Pa.; a son, Ernest B. Jankowski, M.D., of South
Bend; nine grandchildren, Michele Jankowski-Smith of
Swampscott, Mass., Michael Jankowski of Charlotte, N.C., Judith O'Connell
of Granger, Ind., Laura Jankowski of South Bend, Jeffrey
Jankowski of Jasper, Ind., Jennifer Newman of Granger,
Janice Ferrara of Atlanta, Ga., Julie Jackovitz of
Altoona, Pa., and Joyce Jackovitz of Washington, D.C.; four
great-grandsons and one great- granddaughter; and by a brother,
Edward Jankowski of North Fort Myers, Fla. Mr. Jankowski was a
member of M.R. Falcons; a former member of St. Stanislaus
Catholic Church; and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Silver
Creek Township, Mich.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
on Saturday in St. Paul's Retirement Community, 3602 S. Ironwood
Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in St. Paul's Retirement
Community, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The St.
Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, is handling
arrangements.
