John P. Jankowski, 91, of Chicago Trail, New Carlisle, Ind., died at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, in St. Joseph's Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1906, in South Bend, Ind., to William and Wanda (Kasprzak) Jankowski. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Jankowski was a self-employed farmer.
He was married on May 4, 1946, to Regina J. Grzesk, who survives.
He is also survived by a sister, Henrietta Glon of South Bend; a brother, Stanley Jankowski of New Carlisle; and by a sister-in-law, Natalie Mrozinski of South Bend.
Mr. Jankowski was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine E. Jankowski, who died on Oct. 17, 1996; three brothers, William Jankowski, Frank Jankowski and Leo Jankowski; and by a sister, Helen Topolski.
Mr. Jankowski was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 297. He was also a member of the New Carlisle Conservation Club, New Carlisle Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus Council 5570, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the Gleaner Life Insurance Society.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will also recite a Rosary at 7 p.m. today.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
