SOUTH BEND - Alex ''Al'' J. Jankowski, 82,
of South Camden Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 1:18 p.m. on
Saturday, Jan. 17, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was born on
Feb. 8, 1915, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. He
retired in 1982 from South Bend Lathe after 47 years of service.
On Sept. 27, 1941, in South Bend, he married
Esther Pietraszewski, who survives. He is also survived by
a daughter, Carole (David) Coffman of Granger, Ind.; three
grandchildren, Michael (Julia) Coffman of Plano, Texas, Daniel
Coffman of Chicago, Ill., and Melissa (Paul) Reiser of
Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Theresa Sieczko of Niles,
Mich.; and by a brother, Leo Jankowski of Livonia, Mich. Mr.
Jankowski was preceded in death by his twin sister, Clara
Jankowski; and by two brothers, Louis and Casimer Jankowski, Jr.
He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic
Church, Polish National Alliance Lodge 83, Z.B. Falcons
Conservation Club and the Polish Falcons of America Nest 80. Mr.
Jankowski was a lifetime member of the Westside Democratic and
Civic Club.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday
in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Rosary
will be said at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Services will
be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church,
with entombment to follow in the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum
at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
