Virginia Lee Jacobs

Oct. 20, 1919 - April 2, 2004

 

Virginia Lee Jacobs, 84, residing on South 24th Street, South Bend, passed away at 10:40 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004 in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She was born Oct 20, 1919, in Niles, Michigan, and has been a lifelong resident of this area.

On June 23, 1938, in South Bend, as Virginia Smith, she married Francis C. ( Jake) Jacobs. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Francis C. (Jake), along with three daughters Joan (Lyn) Gayloard of LaPorte, IN, Sue (Bill)  Lamb and Nancy (George) Varga of Elkhart; and a son, Charles C. Jacobs of South Bend. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis D. Jacobs.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Graham of Niles, MI, Shirley Oritz of Port Haywood, Virginia; and a brother Merilyn Smith of Baldwin, MI. Mrs. Jacobs was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Gaylord; two sisters, Flora Cusick, Pleasant Burge, and by five brothers, Arizonia Smith, Mexico Smith, Nevada Smith, Michigan Smith, and Allison Smith.

Mrs. Jacobs retired in 1981 as Assistant Supervisor of Admitting at Memorial Hospital of South Bend following 17 years of service. She had been a member of River Park United Methodist Church since 1950. She was also a member of Daughter's of the American Revolution, member  & Past President of St. Joseph Valley Rose Society, Rebekah Lodge, and Memorial Hospital Retiree's. Her greatest joy was heer family. She had many creative interests and hobbies includig gardening, genealogy, sewing, crocheting, cooking and music.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6 in Palmer Funeral Home- River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Kathy Miller, pastor of River Park United Methodiat Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at

Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. The family will recieve friends from 4:00 - 8: 00 p.m. Monday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park.
