SOUTH BEND - Justa L. Jacobs, 85, of
South Bend, passed away Monday morning, July 14, 2008, in Regency
Place, South Bend. Justa was born April 21, 1923, in Mishawaka, a
daughter of the late Russell O. and Theresa (Burkhart) Hawkins.
She grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School
in 1942. On February 23, 1949, Justa married John D. Jacobs, and
for most of their married life they made South Bend their home.
Justa was employed for 40 years at Ball Band / Uniroyal in
Mishawaka, and during her career she worked her way up to the
position of payroll supervisor. She was a member of First
Christian Church in Mishawaka. Justa enjoyed reading and is
remembered for being a hard worker and for her dedication to
family. Justa's surviving family includes her husband of 59
years, John; two sons, John (Karen) Jacobs of Platte City,
Missouri, and Frank Jacobs of South Bend; a sister, Merion Smith
of Crockett, Texas; and two grandchildren, Katharine and John
Jacobs. Justa was preceded in death by two sisters, Emily Hall
and Nadine Grundtner; and a brother, Russell Hawkins Jr.
Friends may spend time with Justa's family
on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells
Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. Services will be
held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev.
Dr. Gregory Timmons officiating. Cremation will follow with
burial at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
