SOUTH BEND - John D. Jacobs, 96, of South Bend, passed
away Friday morning, August 8, 2008, in his home. John was born
April 9, 1912, in Winamac, a son of the late Thomas and Barbara (Angelli)
Jacobs. He was a graduate of Winamac High School. On February 23,
1949, in Logansport, John married Justa Hawkins, and for
most of their married life they made South Bend their home. John
was employed for 36 years at Ball Band / Uniroyal in Mishawaka,
making molds for the auto mats division. He enjoyed spending
weekends at their cottage at Lake Bruce. John's hobbies included
reading English history and spending time in the outdoors. John's
surviving family includes two sons, John (Karen) Jacobs of Platte
City, Missouri, and Frank Jacobs of South Bend; and two
grandchildren, Katharine (David) Kimber and John Jacobs.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Justa, on July 14, 2008;
four sisters, Anne Terry, Alice Hartbarger, Mary Nowostowski
and Agnes Danforth; and by two brothers, Frank Jacobs and
Thomas Jacobs.
Friends may spend time with John's family on
Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells
Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. A brief graveside
service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery,
Mishawaka, with Rev. Erv Mize officiating.
