Edward J. ''Jake'' Jacobs, 78, of Elm Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind.
Ed was born on July 30, 1921, in Mish-awaka, to the late Marie and John Jacobs.
Jake married Angalean Groves in Mishawaka on Oct. 3, 1942. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Judith A. (William) Simons of South Bend, Ind., and Shirley M. Dickenson of Janesville, Wis.; and by a son, James F. (Elsa) Jacobs of Del Rio, Texas. Ed has one surviving sister, Agnes Jacobs of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren, JoAnn Jacobs of Nederland, Texas, Jeanette Wyatt of Beaumont, Texas, Patrick Butz of Cape Coral, Fla., Robert Butz of Macon, Ga., Suzann Butz of Pine Island, Fla., Andrew Simons and Jennifer Simons, both of South Bend.
Ed was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka, a member of the Ushers Club, and was past president and member of the Amateur Radio Operators Club-WA9SW2. Ed retired from Uniroyal in 1986 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Machinist Bowling League for Uniroyal.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka. A wake service will be held in the Bubb Chapel at 7 p.m. today.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Fr. William Sullivan officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of donor's choice.
Mr. Jablonski was a 1984 graduate of Washington High School, attended the University of Minnesota Dental School for one year, graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in both Microbiology and Biology, and belonged to Phi-Kappa-Tau Social Fraternity at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
