SOUTH BEND - On March 13, 2008, Vera M. Jackson, 84, of
Tanglewood Trace, passed on at Hospice House, South Bend. Vera
was born February 5, 1924, in Hartford City, IN, to the late Paul
and Esther Stump, and had lived in the South Bend area
since 1972. She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1942
and was the office manager for the Hoover-Needler Furniture
Store.
On May 12, 1951, in Hartford City, she
married Wayne E. Jackson, who survives. Also surviving are three
sisters, Helen McCullough of Indianapolis, IN, Marjorie Dickason
and Pauline Poulson, both of Marion, IN; one brother,
Donald (Mary) Stump of Ft. Wayne, IN; five children, Karen Strelow
of St. Charles, MO, Susan (Philip) Strantz and Kevin
(Priscilla) Jackson, both of South Bend, Eric (Lisa) Jackson of
Mathews, NC, and Michael (Susan) Jackson of Allen, TX; and 10
grandchildren. Vera was a longtime member of First United
Methodist Church of South Bend, United Methodist Women, and the
Kumdubl Class. She also had been a member of the Ladies of the
Elks. Vera loved flowers and shrubs and enjoyed traveling,
playing bridge, and was for several years very active at The
Budget Corner. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family especially wishes to thank the caregivers at Hospice
for their care and support.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.
Monday, March 17th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North,
17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Mary Hubbard of First United
Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at St.
Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to
5 p.m. today, March 16th, in the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to
First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main St., South Bend, IN
46601; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
