Mr. Gloston "Jitterbug" Jackson
Sr., 83, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather,
passed away after an extended illness on Friday, February 29,
2008, in St. Joseph's Care Center West. loston was born on April
7, 1924, in Palestine, Arkansas, to the union of Frank and Ada Hardman
Jackson. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to
South Bend in 1955. He was honorably discharged from the United
States Army in 1945 after serving his country four years.
In September 1947 he was united in holy
matrimony to Alvergie Twilillie in Forest City, Arkansas,
who preceded him in death on June 20, 2001. He worked
construction for Solids Company for over 20 years, retiring in
1985. His hobby was gambling. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Frank and Ada Jackson; his loving wife, Alvergie
Jackson; two brothers, Lee and Andrew Jackson; and by a
granddaughter. Survivors left to cherish his memory include seven
sons, Greg, Floyd (Shari), Dwayne, Gloston Jr. (Diane), Douglas
and Ray Jackson, all of South Bend, and Demetrius Jackson of
Michigan City, IN; one daughter, Donna Jackson of Atlanta, GA; 20
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a host of other
friends and relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Gloston
"Jitterbug" Jackson Sr. will be held at noon on
Tuesday, March 4, in Alford's Mortuary, with visitation occurring
one hour prior to services in the chapel.
