SOUTH BEND - Walter A. Jablonski, 87, of South Bend, IN, passed
away at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Milton Home
in South Bend, IN. He was born on April 11, 1922, to the late
Anthony and Stella (Pawlak) Jablonski in South Bend, IN, and was
a lifelong resident. Along with his parents one daughter, Vicky
A. Randolph, one grandson, Craig Dean, and two sisters, Violet
Garstecki and Evelyn Pilarski, also preceded him in death. Mr.
Jablonski retired in 1985 from the former South Bend Range where
he worked as a commercial stove model maker for several years. On
May 29, 1946, he married Lillian A. Porogi at the former St.
Stephen Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He is survived by his
loving wife, Lillian of 64 years; two daughters, Patricia
(Charles) Dean of South Bend, IN, Cheryl Marshall of South Bend,
IN; one son, Alan Jablonski of South Bend, IN; eight
grandchildren, Charlene Bell of Niles, MI, Melissa (Greg) Smith
of New Carlisle, IN, Jennifer (Richard) Craig of Cincinnati, OH,
Carissa "Oki" Marshall of South Bend, IN, Ryan Randolph
and Andrea Randolph, both of Osceola, IN, Ronald (Elizabeth)
Randolph of Elkhart, IN, and Valerie Dean of Niles, MI; nine
great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Ronald Randolph Sr. of
Osceola, IN; several nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
Walter was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Bowlers
Country Club, Maennechor Club, and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post
#9820. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he served his country
during World War II. Walter served in the Signal Corps and the
European Theatre of Operations. He enjoyed cooking, bowling,
golfing and, most of all, gardening and caring for his roses.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, in the
Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday,
April 6, 2010, in St. John the Baptist Church, with Rev. Charles
Herman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley
Memorial Park, Granger, IN, where military honors will be
conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the
