Mrs. Fern Ivory, 77, dear stepmother
and aunt who resided on East Broadway Street, South Bend, Ind.,
passed away following a short illness at 8:08 p.m. on Friday,
Dec. 22, in her residence.
On March 15, 1923, in Ozan, Ark., she was
born to the union of the late General and B'eetter (Johnson)
Nelson. She attended elementary school in Neelyville, Mo.,
and high school in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Coming from Niles, Mich.,
she had resided in South Bend since 1965.
In South Bend, on May 6, 1970, she married
Leon P. Ivory. Mr. Ivory preceded her in death on March 29, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Regina Herring; a
step-grandson, Corwin Bivens, both of South Bend; nieces,
Janet (Clem) Henry of Florissant, Mo., Eddie Mae Nelson-Sturrup
of Bloomington, Ind., Phyllis Johnson of East St. Louis,
Ill., Faye Lewis and Fern (Clayton) Lewis, both of
Belleville, Mich., Gloria (Lawrence) Timberlake, Louise Young,
Ruby Smith, Rosemarie Willis, Brenda Joyce McGee
and Shirley Brooks, all of South Bend; nephews, Ronald
(Donna) Nelson of Jefferson City, Mo., Albert (Addie Jean)
Nelson of Berkley, Mo., Tommie (Rose) Shields of East St. Louis,
Ill., Paul Nelson and Carl Nelson, both of Atlanta, Ga., Charles
(Dianne) Lewis of Ypsilanti, Mich., Roger Lewis of Neelyville,
Mo., Jeffery (Louis) Brooks of Omaha, Neb., Darrell Nelson, David
Nelson and Jasper Young, all of South Bend; one aunt, Lou Emma
(Tommie) Johnson of Stockton, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Salone
Gilmore-Nelson; along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Thursday, Dec. 28, in Alford's Mortuary. Interment will follow at
Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service
in Alford's Mortuary where arrangements have been entrusted.
