SOUTH BEND - Harry E. Ivins, 75, of Fairway Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Ivins was born on Aug. 14, 1922, in Elkhart, Ind., to Edward H. and Ina E. (Livengood) Ivins, and had lived in South Bend since 1942, coming from Elkhart. He was employed for 25 years as a manager in the Copy Center at the University of Notre Dame.
On Dec. 1, 1972, in South Bend, he married Hildegarde M. (Oleniczak) Palicki, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Mark and Gregg Ivins of Titusville, Fla.; two stepsons, Leonard Palicki of Niles, Ill., Robert Palicki of Paris, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Christine Kush of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren, Shawn Ivins, Martin, Phillip, Lauren and Andrea Palicki; and by five sisters, Ruth Lloyd, Mary Brutnell, Eleanor Moyer, Patricia White, all of Elkhart, and Grace Ryll of Dania, Fla.
Mr. Ivins was a 1940 graduate of Elkhart High School and had attended the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, St. Hedwig Golden Cluster, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #58, the University Club of Notre Dame, and was a member of the South Bend and Elkhart Barber Shop Quartet for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Terry Place officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a combined parish and St. Hedwig Golden Cluster vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. John Way, South Bend, IN 46628; or to the Danny Thomas Memorial Endowment Program, C/O St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
