Anne
Ivanus, 78, of North Victoria Street in Mishawaka, Ind., passed
away after a lengthy illness at 4 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, in
the Ironwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind.
Anne
was born in Gary, Ind., on May 17, 1919, to Thomas and Mary
(Alivojvodic) Klicek, who had emigrated from Croatia in the early
1900s.
In
1970 Anne married Dr. Theodore B. Ivanus (now a retired Notre
Dame faculty member), who survives.
She
is also survived by her two sons, Judge Tomas (Judy) Magdich of
Dixon, Ill., and Dennis (Judy) Magdich of Tesuque, N.M.; five
grandchildren, Amy Jo (Alan) Clemens of Kingston, Ill., Michael
L. Magdich of LaSalle, Ill., Marjorie (Kenneth) Erdmann of Tulsa,
Okla., Shayna and Mara Magdich of Tesuque, N.M., two
great-grandchildren, Emily M. and Thomas A. Clemens; a sister,
Marie (Ralph) Kirkpatrick of San Jose, Calif.; and by a brother,
Joseph Klicek of Hobart, Ind.
Anne
was steelworker's daughter who, as such, became the valedictorian
of her class at Hobart High School. She was an excellent public
speaker and very interested in public activities, which included
the Ladies of Notre Dame/St. Mary's; the Mishawaka Women's Club;
the Catholic Charities of the Ft. Wayne/South Bend Diocese,
especially the settlement of refugees; and she was a supporter of
the Christ Child Society.
Anne
wrote several articles on Croatian emigrants in the United States,
and had participated in several scholarly symposiums on Croatian
emigration.
Friends
may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Thallemer-Goethals
Funeral Home, Mishawaka.
A
memorial Requiem Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday in St.
Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Robert A. Yast officiating.
