Charles W. Irish, 86, of West Battell
Street, passed away after an illness at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec.
26, in his residence. Charles was born on Feb. 22, 1914, in Three
Rivers, Mich., to the late Charles F. and Laura (Johnson)
Irish. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and
Lawrence Irish; and by one grandson, David Irish. Charles retired
from South Bend Lathe Works in 1979 after 43 years as a
machinist. He was a member of First United Methodist Church,
Mishawaka, Ind., a lifetime member of South Bend Elks #235,
longtime secretary of the South Bend Lathe Works Golf League, a
longtime member of the Elks Mixed Golf League, and a longtime
officer of the South Bend Lathe Credit Union.
On July 2, 1939, in Mishawaka, Charles
married Alice L. Peiffer. After 54 years of marriage,
Alice passed away on Nov. 5, 1992. Charles is survived by one
son, Robert C. (Linda) Irish of South Bend, Ind.; two
granddaughters, Christine Irish of St. Louis, Mo., and Deborah
Irish of South Bend; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Miltenberger
of South Bend; and by a sister, Olive (Vernon) Rossow of
South Bend.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec.
29, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street,
Mishawaka, with Rev. Loren Clemenz officiating. Entombment will
follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call
from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North.
