Phyllis E. Huys, 91, of Mishawaka, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 22, 2006, in Cardinal Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Phyllis was born March 19, 1915, in Mentone, Indiana, a daughter of the late Roy and Enid (Tuttle) McFarland. As a child, she moved to Mishawaka from Sevastopol, Indiana, with her family.

On October 1, 1938, in Mishawaka, Phyllis married Albert M. Huys. The couple made Mishawaka their home until moving to Florida in 1974, and they returned to Mishawaka in 1995. At one time, while Al was serving in the U.S. Navy, Phyllis worked for Squibbs in Manhattan, New York. While living in Mishawaka she was employed at Ball Band and later assisted her husband with the operation of their moving business, Jordan's Mishawaka Transfer, Inc.

Phyllis enjoyed being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and baker, and grew beautiful roses in her yard. Phyllis was talented in making crafts and floral items for the home, and she enjoyed water color painting. Phyllis and Al raised pedigree Collie show dogs. They traveled extensively, particularly to conventions for their business. Phyllis and Al went with others on many Notre Dame football trips. The couple also loved dancing.

Phyllis's surviving family includes her husband of 67 years, Al of Mishawaka; a brother, Roy (Pauline) McFarland of Elkhart; nieces and nephews, Bill (JoAnn) Huys, Lon (Vicky) McFarland, Carol (Tom) Bledsoe, Susie Turner, Mike Carter, Kevin (Linda) McFarland, Leah Serkes and Howie McFarland; and many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews of the McFarland and Huys families.

Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Carter, and a brother, Howard McFarland.
