SOUTH BEND - Russell E. Hutchins, 87, of South Bend, died on Monday, February 1, 2010, in Memorial Hospital. He was born in Mishawaka on May 8, 1922, to Erwin and Alma (Bunch) Hutchins. Russ married the former Mary E. Miller in Mishawaka on October 6, 1945.

 He is survived by Mary, his wife of 64 years; two daughters, Jan (Chuck) Humes of South Bend, Julie (Brad) Davis of New Orleans; a son, Larry (Tahni) Hutchins of Ladoga, IN; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Clarissa, and two brothers, Robert and Dale.

Mr. Hutchins retired from Ideal Consolidated in 1986 as a sheet metal worker. He served his country in the Army Air Corps, being honorably discharged in 1945. Russ was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 59220 Bremen Hwy. Mishawaka, Indiana, from 11-1 p.m. where services will be held at 1 p.m., with Dr. Brad Davis and Pastor Mark Black officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
