Sister Olivia Marie Hutcheson CSC

SOUTH BEND - Sister Olivia Marie (Eleanor Louise Hutcheson),
CSC, 90, was born in Porterville, CA, to the late Walter
Vincent Hutcheson and Margaret Moran Hutcheson. She was
the only surviving member of a family of seven children. Sister
is survived by nieces, Dorothy Hogan of Ft. Wayne,
Kathleen Drew of Visalia, CA; and nephews, Vincent
Hutcheson and David Hipwell, both of Visalia, CA. After
entering the Congregation in 1935 Sister became a nursing student
at Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, OH, gained her bachelor of
science from St. Mary of the Wasatch, Salt Lake City, UT, and her
master's of science from Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO.
Sister was in nursing supervision in the Holy Cross hospitals in
the West and, after training in St. Louis, had terms as
administrator of the hospital at Holy Cross Hospital, UT, St.
Aphonsus Hospital, ID, and Holy Cross Hospital, CA. She was a
fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators.
Sister Olivia Marie was on the General
Council of the Congregation for two terms and was then elected
Superior General of the Congregation in 1979. After her term of
office was completed, Sister worked in the Diocese of
Brownsville, TX, was Health Care VP Mission Effectiveness in
Utah, and staff person at Mary's Solitude, IN. Sister was active
as one who conducted retreats and was a spiritual director.
Sister was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint
Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Reception of the Body and wake
services will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in the Church of
Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, in the Church of Our Lady
of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. The Kaniewski Funeral Home
is handling arrangements.
