Charles Todd Hurley, Sr.

Charles Todd Hurley, Sr., 75, of
Sandpiper Cove Run, South Bend, Ind., formerly of LaPorte Avenue,
passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, in Saint Joseph's Regional
Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 21, 1923, in Michigan City,
Ind., to Henry Jasper and Goldie Marie (Snyder) Hurley.
Mr. Hurley retired in 1988 from the City of South Bend. He was
preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Ronald Karmolinski
in 1990; a sister, Maribelle Pietrzak in 1997; and by a
brother, Jack Hurley in 1988.
On May 16, 1980, he married Violet Derda Gorski,
who survives. He is also survived by three sons, Charles T.
(Joan) Hurley, Jr., of South Bend, Mark Steven (Bonnie) Hurley of
Colorado Springs, Colo., and Richard T. (Tonya) Hurley of South
Bend; eight stepchildren, Kevin (Cindy) DeBre of South
Bend, Vicki (Norman) Guentert of Niles, Mich., Evangeline
Gorski of North Muskegon, Mich., Denise (Jim) Roberts of
South Bend, Gregory (Pat) Gorski of Omaha, Neb., Christine (Dale)
Lesicki of Edwardsburg, Mich., Richard (Judy) Karmolinski
of South Bend and Thomas (Sandy) Karmolinski of Elkhart, Ind.; 43
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne H. Gastineau
of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Robert Hurley of
South Bend and Ronald H. (Sharon) Hurley of Mishawaka, Ind.; 60
nieces and nephews; and by one godson, Jonathon Derda. He
was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he was a
Eucharistic minister, and was a member of the South Bend
Cursillo. He was also an Army veteran of World War II and
received the Purple Heart, and was a member of DAV #39 and the
Teamsters Retirees Union #364.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church,
South Bend, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends
may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, in the Kaniewski
Funeral Home, 3545 North Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish
Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made
to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 88-541, Chicago, IL
60680-1541; or to the American Cancer Society, 535 W. Edison
Road, Unit 6, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Mr. Hurley was known for his
congeniality. His presence enriched the lives of many. The
twinkle in his eye will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
