Marvin William Hurlbut, 73, residing
on Somerset Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 3:54 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 9, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.
Mr. Hurlbut was an ironworker for Schumacher Construction,
Mishawaka, and then Casteel Construction, South Bend, Ind.,
retiring in 1990 after more than 30 years of service. He was born
on Jan. 15, 1928, in Waukegan, Ill., to Marvin Lawrence and
Dorothy (Wiegrefe) Hurlbut, and had lived in this
community most of his life.
On May 8, 1948, in Mishawaka, he married
Rose Marie Slos, his wife of 53 years, who survives. He is
also survived by a daughter, Sharon Ann (Lowell) Balmer of
Mishawaka; a son, Marvin R. (Nanci) Hurlbut of Osceola, Ind.;
eight grandchildren, Lowell Allen, Tina Marie, Shannon Marie,
Jeffrey Marvin, Julie Michelle, Kimberly Sue, Brittany Lee and
Clayton Christopher; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ella
Mae of Osceola and Ruth of Texas; and by three brothers, George
Hurlbut of Florida, Forrest Hurlbut of Mishawaka and Claude
Hurlbut of Indianapolis, Ind.
Mr. Hurlbut was a member of Local #292 Iron
Workers Union; was a veteran of the U.S. Army; attended River
Park United Methodist Church, South Bend; and was an avid golfer
at the Eberhardt Golf Course. He loved his family and
grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Hurlbut will be
held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept, 12, in the Palmer Funeral Homes,
2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Michael Cross will officiate.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the
funeral home.
