Mrs. Josie A. Hunter, 82, beloved wife, sister and stepmother of Notre Dame Avenue, de-parted this life on Sunday, Nov. 4, in her residence. In Earl, Ark., on Dec. 6, 1918, Josie was born to the union of John and Lucille Swift. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Williams; and by a brother, McArthur Swift.

 

She married Clarence Hunter in 1937 in Osceola, Ark. They moved to South Bend, coming from Detroit, Mich., over 40 years ago. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, Clarence Hunter; a stepdaughter, Mary Frances (Joseph) Emerson of Cassopolis, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ophelia Dye of Muskegon, Mich.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Mrs. Hunter retired after 33 years of employment with the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center where she was a cook. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the Mother's Board and with the Missionary Society. Josie loved to cook and read the Bible.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, in Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
