SOUTH BEND - Herman B. Hundere, 89, died at 3:30 PM
Monday, February 11th, in The Meadows at Southfield Village,
South Bend. Herman was born on January 27, 1919, in Minneapolis,
Minnesota, to Hans and Bertha (Olsen Larson) Hundere. He
was a decorated Army veteran, serving his country in World War
II. Herman moved to South Bend in 1964 to serve as an
architectural engineer, managing many projects at the University
of Notre Dame including the Athletic and Convocation Center, as
well as supervising the construction of the South Bend Clinic and
the Downtown Marriott Hotel. In retirement he was an avid
traveler, making trips across the country and around the world.
Herman married Billie Hunt on April
24, 1954, in South Bend. She preceded him in death on November 8,
1997. Herman is survived by his four children, Michael Hundere
and wife, Linda of Rochester, Minnesota, Carol Hundere and
husband, Gordon Allen of Costa Mesa, California; KC
Hundere and wife, Susan of Phoenix, Arizona, and Suzanne Stockman
and husband, John of South Bend, Indiana; his brother, Erling
Hundere, and sister, Dagny Asleson, both of Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. His sister, Hjordis Loge, preceded
him in death.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday,
February 15, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Palmer Funeral
Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Military
services will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Tuesday, February 19th. Memorial
contributions may be made in Herman's name to the charity of the
donor's choice.
