MISHAWAKA - Albert Hums, 85, of Monroeville, IN, formerly
of Mishawaka, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2007, in
Heritage Village Nursing Home, Monroeville, IN. Albert was born
on September 19, 1922, in Mishawaka, Indiana, as the son of Paul
and Barbara (Ruppelt) Hums. He was preceded in death by
his parents and brothers Carl, Bernard and Louis Hums.
On February 16, 1946, in St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Kathryn
"Mamie" Rotondi. Surviving are his loving wife
of 62 years, Mamie; three daughters, Patricia (Tony) Woodworth
of Decatur, IN, and twins, Barbara Hums and Rebecca Ratliff;
a son, Joseph Hums; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Hums, all of East
Texas; five grandchildren, Merisa and Kinsey Hums of East Texas,
Stephanie and Nick Woodworth of Decatur, IN, and Gina Simmons
of Decatur, IN; and five great-grandchildren, twins, Alyson and
Keaton Omlor, Kaleb Omlor, Ava Kathyrn Woodworth and Colson
Woodworth: and two brothers, Larry and John Hums.
Albert owned an electrical business in
Mishawaka for 30 years, Hums Electric Company. He was also the
Mishawaka City Electrical Inspector for 10 years. He was the Past
President of the State of Indiana Electrical Inspectors. He was a
member of the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus. He was a
Veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during WW
II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was an avid golfer in
the Knights of Columbus league and achieved in his golfing career
a hole in one. He loved golfing, fishing, playing cards and
spending time with his wife and family. Treasured times also
included time with his brothers, particularly when they played
cards together. He deeply loved all of his brothers and was very
close to each of them. He became famous for his practical jokes;
he was always pondering what his next practical joke would be and
who would be his next easy mark. He maintained a wonderful sense
of humor and dearly loved life. He was a very devout Catholic and
admired the Mother Mary and prayed the rosary daily. His smile,
laughter and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his
family, friends and all those who came to know this very special
man.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday,
December 2, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th
Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, December
3, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry
Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery,
Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made in Albert's name to
the Audubon Society
