James M. Hummer, 72, of Grape Road in
Granger, Ind., died after a five-month illness at 8:30 a.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Regency Place. He was born in South Bend,
Ind., on Aug. 8, 1930, and had lived in this area all of his
life. James was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Inah
(Gelnett) Hummer; a sister, Vera Ference; a
brother, Everett Calvert; and by a son, Gary Hummer.
James retired from real estate management in
1992 and had formerly worked for many years at Electric Motor
Service.
He married the former Lois I. Biastock
in Mishawaka, Ind., on May 28, 1950. She survives. He is also
survived by two daughters, Sue (Don) Grayckowski of South
Bend and Kathy (Keith) Banker of Leesburg, Ind.; a son,
Jim Hummer of South Bend; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Latzke,
Pamela (Eddie) Smith, Deborah (Scott) Heiman, Chad
Banker, Jayme Banker Ellison, Joshua Hummer, Katie Hummer
and Brad Briggs; two great-grandchildren, Trey Smith and
Alexis Heiman; a sister, Pauline Leach of South Bend; and
by two brothers, William (Ann) Hummer and Jack (Bev) Hummer, both
of Osceola, Ind.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday, Jan. 24, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main
St., Mishawaka, with Rev. Dennis Ingle officiating. The family
will receive friends an hour prior to services. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American
Cancer Society.
