Blanche M. Smith, age 80, of Bremen, passed away Saturday, November 10, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

She was born February 7, 1921, in St. Joseph County, IN to William and Pearl (Sousley) Smith. Blanche was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a member of Florida Avenue Baptist Church in Avon Park, FL, and recently attended Bremen Missionary Church. Blanche graduated from Lakeville High School in 1939. She married Stuart Hummel in 1940, and he preceded her in death February 9, 2000.

Survivors include 4 daughters: Teresa (Stanton) Splix of Plymouth, Kay (Roy) Miller of Plymouth, Jolene (Stephen) Capes of Bremen, Elaine (Paul) Ringer of Plymouth; 1 son, Douglas (Lil) Hummel of Avon Park, FL; 3 sisters, Mary Knepp of Bremen, Arlene Cohee of North Liberty, Annabelle Richards of Pierceton; 1 brother, Clarence Smith of South Bend; 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 granddaughter, Sandra Splix, 1 sister, Iona Hummel, and one brother, Earl Smith.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 13 at the Bremen Missionary Church. Pastor Gary Hinkle will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call 2-8 PM Monday at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bremen Missionary Church.
