SOUTH BEND - Gerald R. Humes, 69,
Byron Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Thursday, March 5,
in the St. Joseph County Hospice House. He had been in the
Hospice House since Feb. 16.
He was born on July 24, 1928, in Culver,
Ind., married Ione Johnston on Aug. 28, 1949, in Knox,
Ind., and lived in the South Bend area for over 40 years. He was
a member of the American Legion, Lakeville, Ind., and the V.F.W.
748, Knox.
He is survived by a son, Charles (Jan) of
South Bend; a daughter, Marjorie (Tim) of Portage, Mich.;
grandchildren Travis (Kim) of Kalamazoo, Mich., Trista Young
of Portage, Ryan and Kelly Humes of South Bend; sisters, Florence
(George) Nitcher of Knox, Darlene Combs of Knox and
Bonnie (Bob) Chambers of North Judson, Ind.; an aunt, Cora
Palm of Knox; an uncle, Matt (Viola) Palm of Culver, Ind.;
sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucile and Ralph Tice of
Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Margaret Johnston of
Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host
of friends who have been so supportive and helpful during his
illness - a very special physician and his staff - and the many
caring Hospice ''angels'' who touched his life and his family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at
the Guisinger Colonial Chapel, 3718 N. Michigan Street, South
Bend, with a visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. today, and one hour
prior to the services on Saturday.
