Sister M. Gonzaga (Jane Charlotte Hughes), CSC, 81, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Dec. 30, 1920, to the late Joseph G. Hughes and Susan Jones Hughes.
Sister is survived by her sisters, Clare R. Hughes of Bowie, Md., Sister Mary Laetitia, RGS, and Sister Mary Susanne, RGS, both of Baltimore, Md.; and brothers, Florent Hughes of Bethesda, Md., and Joseph Hughes of Alexandria, Va. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Sister was preceded in death by her sister, Sister Vincent Marie (Hughes), CSC, and by her brother, Fabian Hughes.
Sister M. Gonzaga spent 34 years in elementary education as teacher and principal at schools in New York, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. She received a certificate for education of the visually handicapped from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Following her teaching career, in 1981, Sister was at Saint Angela Hall, Kensington, Md., as business office manager.
In 1999 Sister came to Saint Mary's Convent and was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

Wake service will be today at 9 a.m. in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
