Florence M. Hughes

Florence M. Hughes, 71, residing on Patty Lane, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind. Mrs. Hughes was born on Nov. 18, 1930, in South Bend, to the late Trevor and Hazel (Hyatt) Jones, and lived in this community most of her life.

 

On Jan. 21, 1950, in South Bend, as Florence Jones, she married Paul Hughes, who preceded her in death in August 1977. Mrs. Hughes was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Hughes; a son, William Hughes; a grandson, Robert Paul Riddell; a sister, Arlene Peterson; a brother, Arnold Jones; a brother-in-law, Norman Young; and by a son-in-law, Robert Riddell.

 

Florence is survived by a daughter, Sherry Riddell of Florence, Ala.; a son and his wife, Gary and Charity Hughes of Three Rivers, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Tammy (Joe) Hamman and Jon Riddell, both of Florence, Courtney Hughes of Schoolcraft, Mich., Michael Hughes of Elkhart, Ind., Kyle Hughes and Justin Kloski, both of Galveston, Ind., Emily Truman of Elkhart, Sierra Datema and Cheyenne Datema, both of Three Rivers. She is also survived by four sisters, Grace (Cornelius) McWilliams and Beverly (Eugene) Freshour, both of South Bend, Delores Young of Niles, Mich., and Jeanette (Bruce) Rohde of Logansport, Ind.; and by several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services for Florence Hughes will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. John Staples, pastor of New life Christian Fellowship, Mishawaka, Ind., will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

A very special thank you to Dr. Reidy and to St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, for the wonderful care they gave Florence and to the members of her family at this very difficult time in our lives. Also, thank you to Pastor John Staples who will conduct funeral services.
