NEW CARLISLE - Maxine Huff, 91, of Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in the nursing home. Maxine was born January 11, 1917, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Delbert and Cora (Welch) Barhydt Sr. She had been employed with Wheelworks Inc. for 14 years and Schaffer Gear for 23 years, retiring in 1980.

On January 29, 1935, Maxine married Charles Benjamin Huff, who preceded her in death on July 1, 1994. Her son, Arlen Lee Huff, preceded her in death in 2005. Sisters, Imogene Riehm, LaVonna and Betty Jean Barhydt, and brothers, Max, Delbert Jr., Clifford Hugh and Delos Arthur Barhydt, all preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Picton of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Toby Huff, Randy (Shelley) Huff, Pamela (Tim) Williams, Jody Picton, Troy (Rose) Picton and Ty (Jerrianne) Picton; 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Huff.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
