12, 1940 - March 27, 2009SOUTH BEND - Madelyne M. "Topsy" Huffman, 69, of South Bend, died peacefully in her home on March 27, 2009. She was born on March 12, 1940, in Elkhart, IN. On June 27, 1959, she married Robert Huffman. She was a loving mother of Daniel (Candy) Huffman of South Bend, Julie (Mark) Grose of Fort Wayne, IN, Rene (Kevin) Grose and John (Wendy) Huffman, both of Granger, IN, and Michelle (Scott) McKnight of Lakeville, IN; 14 grandchildren, Daniel (Stephanie) Huffman of San Antonio, TX, Robert Huffman and Wayne Huffman, both of South Bend, Adam and Dirk Grose of Louisville, KY, Kyle Grose of Fort Wayne, Joshua (Esme) Grose, Morgan Grose, Devin Grose and Julie Grose of Granger, Jonathan and Ryan Huffman of Mishawaka, IN, Brittany and Stewart Huffman of Granger. Also surviving are her sisters, Jennie (Phillip) McDonald of South Bend, Katherine (John) Hemminger of Elkhart and Ondalee Kline of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty LaBelle, and father, Daniel Soli. Topsy was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed a quiet life. She loved to garden, crochet, and was an avid reader. She was a wonderful cook, who tried new dishes from her favorite cooking shows. She recorded her life's story throughout the years in many journals. She was a member of Theta Chapter, Delta Theta Chi Sorority, and retired from Krogers after 27 years of service. Topsy was an animal lover, especially her beloved dogs, Baby and Lacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pet Refuge, Inc., 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM today, March 29, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services for Topsy will be held at 3 PM in the funeral home.
