H. Howell

SOUTH BEND - William H. Howell, 90, residing in South Bend,
passed away peacefully at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, in
his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 27, 1920,
in Barnesville, Georgia, a son of Evie Thomas and Leona (Gibson)
Howell. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast
Guard during WW II from September 9, 1940, until October 17,
1945. On December 30, 1943, in Miami, Florida, he was united in
marriage to June Schenck. Following the war, they moved to South
Bend in 1945, coming from Atlanta. They enjoyed nearly 60 years
of marriage until her passing on October 19, 2003. Mr. Howell
retired in 1982 as a foreman and electrician from Colip Electric
Company. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 153, was a life member
of V.F.W. Post 1167, and Calvary Temple now known as South Gate
Church. He and June were longtime members of the former Ridgedale
Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his son and
daughter-in-law, Rev. William G. and Linda Howell of South Bend;
two grandsons, Joshua and Christy Howell of Seattle, WA, Nathan
and April Howell of South Bend; and two great-grandchildren,
Macie Howell and Evan Howell. The family will receive friends
from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. today, April 14th, in the Palmer Funeral
Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m.
Thursday at Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions
of sympathy on behalf of Mr. Howell may be made to Next Level
