SOUTH BEND - Dorothy Janet Howell, age 75, of Douglas Road in South Bend, passed away at noon on March 26, 2008 at her residence of natural causes. Dorothy was born February 22, 1933 in Blue Island, Illinois to the late Pete and Dorothy (Hartzel) Thomson.

In Cassopolis, Michigan on May 5, 1963. Dorothy was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Howell. Charles preceded her in death, passing away in September of 2006. Surviving are her children, Debra (Gary) Doan of Florida, Gary Lindsley of Buchanan, Michigan, Charles (Christine) Wilson of Sturgis, Michigan, and Randy L. (fiancé Andie) Howell of Livingston, Montana. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, two brothers, Pete Thomson of North Liberty, and John Thomson of Dowagiac, Michigan and three sisters, Betty Francis, Mary Holcomb, and Roberta Popovitch, all of South Bend. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Renay Valpiona, who passed away in May of 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with two hours of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Dan Morgan, of New Life Community Church, South Bend will officiate. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
