Betty M. Howard, 83, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 17, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Lawrence Macht and Bertha Troeger. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond C. Macht. On Aug. 4, 1973, she married Edwin R. Howard, who died in 1992.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Kimberly (Larry) Tomlinson of South Bend, and great-grandchildren, LeAnna and Kathleen.

Mrs. Howard retired from the Studebaker Motor Company in 1969 after 28 years service as a secretary. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, in the WELSHEIMER FUNERAL HOME, 521 N. Williams St., with Rev. John Von Lackum, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ, officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, June 29, in the funeral home.
