Georgette M. Hostetler

Sept. 10, 1918 - Jan. 17, 1999

South Bend Tribune 1/20/1999

Georgette M. Hostetler, 80, of Cameron, Wis., formerly of Lakeville, Ind., died on Sunday, Jan. 17, in Lakeview Medical Center, Rice Lake, Wis. She was born on Sept. 10, 1918, in Canada, to Philomena and Neil McLean. She attended college at St. Mary's in South Bend, Ind., and Indiana University.

On June 5, 1937, she married Roy Hostetler. The couple farmed in Lakeville before coming to Wisconsin in 1971. Georgette taught in Catholic elementary schools for eleven years, both in Indiana and Wisconsin, and was also active in the Retired Teachers Club. She was a member of the Indianhead Writers Guild, and was a free lance writer who wrote articles for ''Countryside,'' a publication of the Barron News-Shield. She also wrote the book, Country Lore, based on the everyday life on the home farm. Being a member of the Laubach Literacy Council brought her great joy in helping others to become able readers.

Operating a family dairy farm, raising St. Bernards, owning the antique shop, ''Antiques & Stuff,'' and all aspects of nature were a few things she loved, but her greatest love was her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Lawrence (Kathleen) Hostetler of Mishawaka, Ind, and Daniel (Susan) Hostetler; a foster son, James (Sharon) Jorgenson of Cameron; and daughters, Linda Hostetler of Menomonie and Rebecca Hostetler of St. Paul; and by 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy; a daughter, Suzanne Crain; a son, Ronald Hostetler; and by a grandson, John Eric Hostetler.

Services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cameron at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, with Fr. Gerard Willger officiating. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Stanley Township.

The visitation will also be held at St. Peter's from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either Heifer Project International, P.O. Box 808, Little Rock, AR 72203-0808; or to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607-2980.
