Josephine R. Horwarth, 86, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Friday, Oct. 24, in her residence.

She was born on June 4, 1917, in South Bend, to John and Kathryn (Yandl) Horwarth. Josephine was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and had volunteered for many years at St. Paul's. She had a great love of crafts, which included making flower arrangements, Christmas ornaments and sewing, just to name a few. She also enjoyed her Word Search puzzles very much. Josephine's greatest love was for her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Gertrude Hemmelgarn, Helen Lukasiewicz, Margaret Griesinger and Agnes Berlakovich. She is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Horwarth of South Bend and Anna (Stephen Jr.) Elek of South Bend; and by two brothers, Leo "Bud" Horwarth of Mishawaka, Ind., and John (Sally) Horwarth of Michigan.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Jude's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 26, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Josephine R. Horwarth to St. Jude's Catholic Church.
