Obituary: Roland J. Horvath

Aug. 18, 1926 -- Oct. 6, 2004

                                       

Roland J. "Harve" Horvath, 78, departed peacefully from our world to be with our Heavenly Father.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Horvath; his mother, Nancy Horvath; his stepsister, Elsie Carlson; his brother, Edwin Richard Horvath; and his wife, Jacqueline A. Horvath (Jan. 19, 2003).

He is survived by his children, Dennis Horvath (Brenda) of Elkhart, Ind., Deborah (Tim Lewis) of Mishawaka, Ind., Lynnette (Brent Hamlett) of South Bend, Ind., and Rodney Horvath (Michelle) of Saginaw, Mich.; grandfather to Troy Horvath (Beth) of Osceola, Ind., April Horvath of South Bend, Sean Lewis of Mishawaka, Matthew Tudor of Fort Collins, Colo., PFC Adam Tudor of Fort Benning, Ga., Alex and Andrew Horvath of Saginaw; and great-grandfather to Hannah and Isabella Horvath of Osceola, Ind.

His sister, Norma Horvath of Fort Wayne, Ind., and his stepsister, Evelyn Kendziorski (Edward) of South Bend, also survive him.

Roland served our country with pride in World War II with the 64th FA BN and was a decorated Tech-5 private. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 18, 1946.

Whereupon he met Jacqueline A. Dosmann and they were married on Sept. 3, 1948, and resided in Osceola for 55 years. Roland spent his working career at Indiana Bell as a radio repair man where he was affectionately know as the "Silver Fox" until he retired after 40 years of loyal and faithful service in 1988.

He was a meticulously gifted craftsman and could make or repair any item. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and a NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and the serenity of nature. He loved to fish and hunt, and was a member of the NRA.

Arrangements have been made by the Chapel Hill Funeral Home; however, there will be no visitations, with a memorial service on Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Department of Natural Resources at the Division of Fish and Wildlife, 402 W. Washington St., W 273, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., with Fr. Derrick Sneyd officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Art in Public Places Committee of Mishawaka.
